Healthy cookware & crockeries. Did it cross your mind? New age cookware comes in various teflon based, non-stick cookware. Then there are a wide range of plastic serveware, cutleries. These definitely are easy to cook and maintain and are its pros. But did we ever stop and think of cons. We tense over what we eat. But we never think in what we are cooking because we assume this is not important. Healthy cookware & crockeries are just as important. Teflon or non-stick cookware are exposed to Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA). There is a concern that it might cause Cancer. Though there is no hard evidence but it is something which one should avoid since there is wee bit of concern around it.
Meanwhile, the old, traditional utensils are making a comeback. Earthen, kansa, stone, steel products packaged in new, stylish ways to suit the modern ways yet not letting go of its goodness are now easily available. Each of these has its own health values which can never be found in the artificially developed Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) or plastic. Let us take one example – Kansa. Ayurveda recommends usage of Kansa. This metal is alkaline in nature and it exudes it’s mineral properties in the food making the latter healthier. And helps improve gut health and boosts immunity over all. This metal has many other useful properties as well. Earthenware, stoneware too come with their own benefits.
These crockeries and cutleries now can be found easily in modern and tasteful designs. Another important feature that we should consider is that these also last for a very long time unlike their plastic counterparts helping in sustainability. So there is less wastage . Helping the environment. As these last a lifetime, these are economically more feasible. The only drawback is that these need careful handling and maintenance. But I don’t think we mind a little extra work in lieu of a healthier us.
